Species
Frandir is a Nightmare.
Please note that this is a breed created for my story and may not be the same as any description found anywhere else on the Internet.
A nightmare is basicly an equine breed that has 2 appearences. This is NOT the same as a shape shifter!
The first is the appearence of a normal horse. Normal head, tail, males, legs etc. Nothing special. Put a saddle on it and have a good ride. Hi ho Silver, hurray! Since he has magical abilities he changed his look, though. He wanted to look more dangerous - terrifying. Now his head has the top of a skull and skiked teeth. His hind leg shows the bones, and rib like bones are coming from his neck. His hooves are split and he can move them like if he had 2 fingers. He just can't bend them. He grew the bones in his tail, creating a tail which looks like a lion's tail. But at the end is a tip of bone, which is very sharp.
This is his new 'common' form. He eats grass and other plants when he's hungry.
His second form is the form of a Nightmare: tipted teeth, manes and tail made of flames, a body with lots of bones showing. Within the bones is something like lava showing and flames coming out. When he walks or runs he will leave a trail of flaming hoofprints. His eyes are red and glowing.
When he is in this form, he eats meat: raw, prefered.
Nightmares can't die of old age. They can die when they decide it's their time, but not as long as they enjoy their lives. However, they can die when they are sick or be killed. They are not immortal.

Symbol
You have probably noticed his logo in the header: 2 snakes holding a gem.
That is his symbol. All his servants should have this logo somewhere on their uniform.
These 2 snakes can also be found on his ring.
Some think it's a symbol of good and evil fighting for the gem, but no one knows for sure.
Magic abilities
Frandir can do magic. He started with safe, pure magic, but something happened to him in his past. He became dangerous and decided to go further: he studied dark magic. Not from books, but from trying - which is much more dangerous. He controls his magic by having a ring in his ear. Without that ring he can still do magic, but magic is... unprodictable. It is like fire... You can start it, but it seems to lead a life of it's own. Once created it can go right (lighting a candle) and it can go wrong (burn a house).
His ring makes sure the magic listens to his orders. Without the ring it has a mind of it's own and can get very dangerous.
He can also read minds, an ability which is rare. It is not just a kind of magic, it is a talent.
Frandir tries to avoid using too much magic, but he will use it when he feels he has to.

Personality
Frandir - aka lord Wartick - is a mystierous person who appears to be mean, even dangerous. And that first impression is correct, sadly.
Frandir isn't a happy or kind person. He is a loner. He rules over his lands with a firm grip. He doesn't allow any kind of rule breaking. If someone can't afford their taxes they end up in prison right away.
He knows very well what he wants and he'll do anything to achieve his goals. He can be cruel and never shows mercy. He doesn't care what others think of him, he only cares about himself.
As ruler he is very direct. He has very clear rules, though some rules seem unfair. Like you can't leave town without permission, you have to be inside when it's dark and every month you have to pay taxes of 20 silver coins a month. He never shows mercy and has no regrets. He's been a ruler for a long time and he has no intention to stop. When he speaks he wants everyone to be quiet and obey him. His servants fear him, since they can easily be replaced. They do whatever he wants and never ask a question. He orders it, there is no reason for them to know why.
As a person he is a bit complicated. He never shows any emotion. Well, sometimes he shows anger. But you will never see him smile or smirk. He doesn't believe in love: "Love is a distraction, love makes you weak. If everyone fears you, you are strong and powerfull. Anger is an emotion that makes you stronger, as long as you don't let it lead you. Love and romance is a waste of time".
He doesn't like liars. In fact, if he finds out one of his servants betrays him he will make sure it is the last thing they do. He doesn't do much by himself, he has servants to do the work for him. He gives orders, they obey. Simple as that.
Some say he was kind in the past, but if that is true... then there is nothing left of that side of him. He is a cruel ruler, who doesn't like questions.
What he also hates: when someone calls him Frandir. He is called lord Wartick now. Frandir is part of his past, a period of his life that is over and forgotten.
He is strong. Even without weapons or magic he can still easily win a fight. He has lots of experience. He prefers not to fight himself, but if needed he will.
He is also a very strong wizard. He started with pure magic, but soon he started to study the dark magic. And he is a master of dark magic... Sure, his abilities have limits, but still it makes him strong and dangerous.
He isn't very patient. He wants to get things done the moment he says. The longer he has to wait, the more angry he gets.

History
Warning!!
Frandir doesn't like talking abut the past!
This history is based on lost facts and some rumors.
There is absolutely no guarantee that these are correct.
Also, don't talk to him about the past! He hates it!
The stories say he was born in an Elven empire, called Galmador. There was a beautiful queen ruling over the land, called Frejah. [This character doesn't excist yet!] Frejah is a beautiful queen, just looking at her makes every man's heart melt and filled with love. She was kind and warm hearted.
Frandir lost his parents when he was 7 years old. There was a big fire in the house and sadly his parents and younger sister passed away... So far he was what is considered a normal Elf. But now his heart filled itself with anger. Elves can control nature. They can make things grow, create wind or water, make water freeze... Why didn't they do anything to save them?! The answer was clear: "Our magic comes from a source. The only one who can refill this source is the true heir of Gemmarum, the last known pure blood ruler. Sadly he got killed many years ago, and his bloodline was lost from sight. Some rulers followed, but no one was the true heir. This includes Frejah. When we use our magic we are slowly draining our source untill it is gone comepletely, so we save our powers for real emergencies."
Frandir got so mad that he left Galmador. He tried using diffrent kinds of magic which wouldn't effect the Elves. He ended up with the dark magic. Since his heart was filled with anger it was easy to study. He managed to go beyond his limits, getting stronger and more powerfull soon.
Frandir joined the army of a king, acting like a loyal servant. He helped the king to expand his empire and get a big army. The king trusted him completly and without any doubts.
But that backfired on him. He found out that Frandir was becoming a serious treat to him and ordered his guards to get rid of him. However, the guards knew very well how powerfull Frandir was and couldn't risk their lives by trying to kill him. They brought him to the king, where he ordered to kill him. Frandir just smirked, an evil grin on his face. The guards didn't do anything.
"Arrest that fool," Frandir said. "Lock him up in the dungeon. Give him food and water every day untill he dies of old age."
And that was the end of the king. Frandir took over the empire and started his new life as ruler, being 100 years of age. With this new start came a new name: lord Wartick. No more kings for this empire, but a cruel dictator. He was no longer an Elf: he became a Nightmare.
Some say he knew love ones, but no one is sure of that. In fact, no one really knows anything about his past, since he never talks about it. Even his real name was forgotten.
Stories go around that he loved Frejah ones. This was after the king died of old age, but it remains uncertain when exactly.
Frandir went back to Galmador without anyone seeing him. He went into Frejah's castle, going to her room. Frejah was standing in front of the window, looking outside.
"I knew you were coming," she said softly, her voice sounding like music. The most beautiful voice he ever heard. She didn't turn around to face him. "I knew you were coming to see me," she continued. "I don't know why, the stars won't tell me. But they tell me something about an unhappy situation."
Frandir didn't speak. He closed the door, going further into her room. He looked at her.
Finally she turned around to face him. She looked into his eyes, a warm feeling spread deep inside him. "Why are you here?" she asked. "You know everyone hates you here."
Frandir nodded. "I am aware of that," he said, his voice cold and deep. "I just had to see you, even if it's for the last time."
"Are you going to send my soul to the stars?" Frejah asked.
Frandir looked at her, a little surprised. Then he slowly shook his head. "No. No, Frejah, I am not here to end your life. I am here with an offer." He came closer to her. She didn't back away from him. He could see her shiny eyes looking into his eyes.
"I am here to ask you to join me. To stand by my side. We are both rulers now. We can join my empire with yours. Mine with the common ones, yours with the Elves. A very strong ally for eachother."
Frejah's eyes filled with tears, but they didn't leave her eyes. She didn't look away. "You know I can't."
Frandir stopped right in front of her. "Together we can do things we didn't even dream of."
Frejah stepped back a little. "You know I love you, Frandir. I always have. But I can't. Everyone sees you as the enemy. They don't trust you, and they have good reasons to. I am sorry, Frandir, but this is where our story ends. We've reached a crossing, and our roads split up here. You have your way, and I have mine."
Frandir sighed. "That is what I feared, milady."
As if someone gave a signal they hugged eachother. One last, final hug before it would belong to the past.
They let go again, both stepping back.
"Next time we meet it will be as enemies," Frejah said, sounding sad.
Frandir nodded. "I will never forget you and what we had," he said.
Frejah smiled a little. "And I will never forget you, Frandir."
Frandir went back to the door. "Goodbye, Frejah."
"Goodbye... lord Wartick," Frejah said, almost whispering. Tears rolled down her cheeks, but Frandir didn't turn. He never saw the tears she cried in silence, for him.
He walked out, leaving the only love he once had. It was over, it belongs to the past now...
